Carlos Yulo redeemed himself with a podium finish on the floor exercise, claiming third place in the apparatus final at the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships on Friday at the Indonesia Arena in Jakarta.
Yulo had missed the podium two years ago in Antwerp, Belgium, but this time capitalized on changes in the Code of Points to secure another medal.
Performing second, the reigning Olympic champion in the event set the bar high with a final score of 14.533 — just slightly below his qualifying score, where he placed second behind the United Kingdom’s Jake Jarman.
The 2019 World champion opened his routine with a well-executed tumbling pass, and the rest of his performance flowed smoothly. Despite some adjustments on his landings, the 25-year-old dynamo still earned an impressive 8.633 for execution.
Yulo focused on sticking his landings, but his difficulty score of 5.900 was slightly lower than Luke Whitehouse’s 6.100, which ultimately made the difference.
Whitehouse, also from the UK, had struggled in the qualifiers, finishing in eighth place, but improved significantly in the final to move ahead of Yulo during the first half of performances.
Meanwhile, Jarman consolidated his top qualifying position with a massive 14.866 score (6.300 D score, 8.666 E score) to claim his first World title on the floor exercise, adding to his gold on vault in Antwerp two years ago.
Yulo first made a global splash in 2018, earning a bronze medal at just 18 years old.
The reigning double Olympic champion now turns his focus to the vault final on Saturday at 3:00 PM Philippine time, also at the Jakarta arena.
