In a season that tested grit, resilience, and championship mettle, Brooke Van Sickle stood tall — steady, sharp, and unrelenting.
And now, the Petro Gazz star will receive the honor of the inaugural Season Most Valuable Player at the first-ever Pilipinas Live PVL Press Corps Awards Night, a fitting tribute to her phenomenal campaign that helped dethrone Creamline’s All-Filipino dynasty.
Van Sickle, the Angels’ explosive and ever-reliable outside hitter, will receive the highest individual recognition — the Season MVP award presented by Arena Plus — on May 28 at Novotel.
The 27-year-old Filipino-American was the driving force behind Petro Gazz’s unforgettable run, slicing through competition and rallying her team to snatch the 2024–25 All-Filipino Conference crown, halting the Cool Smashers’ bid for a fifth straight title.
Her performance was nothing short of elite. Van Sickle topped the MVP voting with a weighted score of 227.6 points, a blend of 50% statistics, 30% media votes, and 20% team votes.
She amassed 116.3 statistical points, 66.3 from the media, and 45 points from coaches and team captains — edging out Creamline’s dual-MVP contenders, Bernadeth Pons and Michele Gumabao.
Pons, who earned the Reinforced Conference MVP, came in a close second with 205.6 points (122.8 stats, 50.4 media, 32.4 team). Meanwhile, Invitationals MVP Gumabao finished third with 151.4 points (92.5 stats, 35.1 media, 23.8 team).
It wasn’t always smooth sailing for Petro Gazz.
Their season began with heartbreak, falling short of a three-peat in the Reinforced Conference quarterfinals and failing to make a splash in the mid-year Invitational. But when it mattered most, they roared back — with Van Sickle leading the charge and never letting go of the wheel.
Through every dip and climb in the Angels’ roller-coaster ride, the Hilo, Hawaii native was a picture of composure and consistency. Her impact was undeniable, earning Best Outside Hitter citations in both the Reinforced and All-Filipino Conferences, and culminating in her second straight Conference MVP in the all-local tilt.
In her award-winning All-Filipino campaign, Van Sickle ranked third in total scoring with 349 points (296 attacks, 30 blocks, and a league-best 23 aces). She also led all players in aces per set (0.38), finished second in spiking success (36.86%), third in receiving (35.37%), and sixth in digging (2.89 digs/set) — a testament to her all-around brilliance.
Van Sickle didn’t just rack up numbers — she embodied leadership, grit, and the heart of a champion.
And on May 28, the league will officially crown its most outstanding star with a recognition as historic as the journey that led her there.
