PLDT made quick work of Capital1, winning 25-17, 25-20, 25-17, to take the solo lead in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City on Tuesday.
Savi Davison continued to impress in her return from a long knee injury layoff, contributing 17 points and seven receptions.
The High Speed Hitters remained unbeaten in three outings, claiming the top spot in the 12-team field.
“Happy na yung pinag-usapan, nangyari lahat, na-execute lahat so pag ganon naman regardless ng result happy kami kasi nagawa namin yung trabaho namin. So, bonus nalang na nag-straight sets,” said PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort.
The High Speed Hitters didn’t allow the Solar Spikers to gain any momentum in the third set, surging to a 15-6 lead, thanks to the efforts of Angge Alcantara, Erika Santos, and Fiola Ceballos.
They finished the sweep in 92 minutes.
Ceballos and Santos both added 11 points, with Ceballos also contributing 16 excellent digs.
“Nakakaproud lang kasi may goal talaga kami as a team so kahit papaano, maganda talaga ‘yung preparation namin. Talagang hindi na bago sa amin ‘yung galaw namin, kailangan na lang namin masundan ‘yung kung anong plano at sistema,” said team captain Kath Arado, who anchored the defense with 14 digs and seven receptions.
PLDT will look to make it four straight wins next Tuesday when they face Chery Tiggo at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Solar Spikers suffered their first straight-sets loss of the conference, dropping to 0-3. This follows previous losses to Choco Mucho (in four sets) and Chery Tiggo (in five sets).
Heather Guino-o was the only Capital1 player to reach double digits, finishing with 10 points, 10 receptions, and seven digs.
Capital1 will look for its first win on Saturday when it faces Nxled at the same Pasig venue.
