BREN Esports’ Maru will be representing the Philippines at the 12th IESF Esports World Championship after scoring the biggest victory in his career.
Crawling all the way down from the lower bracket, Maru overcame a twice-to-beat disadvantage and pulled the upset rug on teammate Hapon in the Grand Finals of the 2020 Eilat Philippine Qualifiers powered by SMART, Friday evening.
Hapon actually had the chance to close it out in the first series, taking a 2-1 round advantage in the Game Five using Lei. However, an outstanding final round performance from Maru’s Fahkumram forced another best-of-five series for the IESF berth.
Maru sustained his momentum from there, sweeping Hapon, 3-0, in the second series with the help of Fahkumram once more. Maru finished Game Three with a perfectly executed rage drive on an airborne Geese.
Maru, who had come all the way from the pits of the lower bracket, dispatched Secret Base’s Adrian first in the losers round one while booting out Laus Auto Group Playbook Esports’ Doujin in the succeeding round.
He then took out another teammate in Mawts in the losers semifinals before defeating LPE’s AK in the losers finals for the right to face Hapon.
The IESF 12th Esports World Championship will be held later this year at Eilat, Israel.
