Stallion-Laguna’s winning streak came to a screeching halt at the hands of Capital1, who pulled off a stunning 1-0 upset last Saturday at the MOA Football Pitch in the PFF Women’s League.
“We’ve proven that we’re not here just to participate — we’re here to show who we are, both as a team and as individual players,” said Capital1 head coach Let Dimzon, who masterfully orchestrated the victory.
As expected, Stallion came out aggressive early, but Dimzon’s defensive strategy held firm. Capital1 absorbed the pressure and relied on quick counterattacks to find openings.
Their breakthrough came in the 31st minute. Stallion’s Jenna Merrill was overly physical while marking Judie Arevalo inside the box, resulting in a penalty.
Arianna Del Moral stepped up to the spot and coolly converted what would be the match’s lone goal.
“We lost to them last time, and I said that we will get back at them,” Arevalo shared. “So we showed how well we prepared for them.”
Despite Stallion’s persistent efforts to find an equalizer, Capital1’s backline — led by Emma Young and Helina Lamptey — stood resolute and denied every attempt until the final whistle.
Capital1 wasn’t the only side to avenge a first-round defeat that day.
University of Santo Tomas bounced back emphatically, overpowering University of the Philippines with a 3-0 victory.
Nikah Asilo opened the scoring in the 11th minute, setting the tone for UST.
Lovely Fernandez then sealed the win with a brace, scoring in the 51st and 95th minutes, pushing UP to the bottom of the standings.
The league resumes on Saturday, May 31, at the same Pasay venue.
Capital1 will look to extend their momentum when they face UST at 5:00 PM, followed by UP’s final match of the tournament against Kaya at 7:45 PM.
