Whenever Arwind Santos gets the ball through an outlet pass and has no opponent near him, it’s an automatic two points from him, usually by way of a two-handed dunk.
But in Game Two of his San Miguel Beermen’s 2019 PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven semifinal series versus the Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters on Monday night, that wasn’t the case.
With about 4:37 remaining in the third quarter, Santos was all by himself near the basket, so he decided to gather all his efforts and leaped for his signature two-handed rim-rattler.
Santos, unfortunately, missed.
“Dapat nga Spiderman dunk pero parang ayaw ipagawa eh. May pumigil eh,” Santos said, even if his Spiderman Dunk has already been banned by the league for safety purposes.
“Parang na-bad trip nga ako kanina,” continued the former league MVP.
“Biglang parang dumikit yung isang paa ko kaya nag-alanganin ako tumalon kanina. Natawa na rin ako nung huli.”
But beyond the missed dunk that has become a laughing stock on social media, Santos still went home with a big smile on his face.
Santos and the Beermen survived a physical Fuel Masters side, 92-82, to move just two wins away from returning to the championship stage for the fifth straight time
“Wala na yon, at least nanalo kami,” said the 37-year-old.
“Maganda dito nakadalawang panalo na kami and yung momentum, hindi mo maipagkakaila na nasa amin so kailangan naming pangalagaan yun. Kailangan namin na ‘wag bitawan.”
