To partner up with a collegiate basketball program as storied as the San Beda Red Lions is already an honor for ANTA Philippines.
But to be part of history, particularly in lording over the NCAA Season 99 seniors’ hoops to end a five-year title drought, serves as the cherry on top.
“For the brand, it’s an honor for us to be partners with a school that has such a rich championship tradition,” ANTA PH marketing manager Mikko Abello said.
The brand organized a meet-and-greet for San Beda’s supporters in its Gateway Mall 2 branch in Cubao last December 21, just days after the squad took down Mapua in the deciding Game 3 of the Finals at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
The whole team was in attendance, with head coach Yuri Escueta taking the time to express his gratitude to ANTA for the support.
“Kung hindi dahil sa inyo, naglalaro kaming naka-tsinelas,” the former cager turned mentor said in jest. “Sana next year, suportahan niyo pa rin kami.”
The event was a momentous occasion for Abello and Co., for the brand always dreamt of seeing one of its teams under the Varsity Project strike gold.
Launched last year, the program currently has four schools under its belt, the other three being St. Benilde, University of the East, and Adamson. But the Red Lions are the very first in the Varsity Project to win a championship.
“We’re proud of all our teams,” expressed the amiable executive. “We’re proud of all of our other teams — Adamson, UE, Benilde.
“We know they all gave their 100-percent in the past season pero it’s just really a special group, what Beda had this year,” he added.
Such an achievement, Abello said, pushes ANTA as well to provide nothing but the best for Beda and their quest for more success in the coming years.
Ditto with their other schools, of course, that are looking to make a mark as big as that of the Red Lions, which now have 23 NCAA titles in their collection.
“It also puts a lot of pressure on us to deliver, because they deserve nothing less. Only the absolute best,” he stated. “As long as they need our help, we are there for them a hundred percent.”
