Agatha Wong captured the gold medal in the 30th Southeast Asian Games’ Women’s Wushu Taijijian championships, Tuesday morning at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
Wong, who won silver in the 2017 Games in the same event, netted 9.65 points en route to her second gold medal of the tilt. She also lorded over the Women’s Taijiquan category last Sunday.
“I’m still trying to think na nanalo ba talaga ako? I’ve been through so much, and I’m very grateful to get this opportunity talaga,” expressed the 21-year-old out of Saint Benilde.
Thi Minh Huyen Tran of Vietnam bagged the silver medal with 9.63 points, just 0.01 points, above bronze medalist Basma Lachkar of Brunei as the latter scored 9.62 markers.
“They’re really good opponents. I’m really grateful to represent the Philippines and compete with great countries,” she said.
It wasn’t just Wong who shone in the last day of the Wushu competitions, as the men’s team also made its mark.
The troika of Jones Inso, Johnzenth Gajo, and Thornton Sayan won the bronze in Taolu Duilian with 9.49 points, ensuring that each and every member of the men’s squad has a medal.
Indonesia topped the contest with 9.54 points, behind Seraf Naro Sinegar, Edgar Marvelo, and Harris Horatius.
Brunei’s Sain Majdurano, Joel Majallah, and Muhn Safie Shayfaran Rosalan snared silver with 9.5 points.
