The country lost a genuine sportsman on Wednesday.
Edgar “Ed” E. Picson (July 10, 1953-April 19, 2023) passed away on Wednesday after a long battle with liver cancer, according to Quinito Henson.
He was 69 years old.
Picson has long been a fixture in Philippine sports.
Prior to his demise, he was the president and chief executive officer of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines — being elected to the post unanimously back in November 2021.
Besides his passion for the sweet science, Picson, a product of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, was known for his love of basketball.
Picson used to be part of the Philippine Basketball Association broadcast as a lead anchor.
He also used to be a columnist at the Manila Bulletin.
Prior to entering the world of sports, Picson also dabbled into acting — being a regular in 80s sitcom John ‘En Marsha — and doing voiceover work on the side.
One of his dear friends Bill Velasco paid tribute to his pal moments after his passing.
“Lost another old friend today. Farewell, Ed Picson, my colleague from Vintage Enterprises in the early 1990’s,” read Velasco’s post.
“You were always articulate, level-headed, and spoke your mind. A great sportscaster, voice talent, and boxing official. God bless you, kind sir.”
He is survived by Karina, Binggay, and Bam.
