Carlos Yulo ended his 51st FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships run on a high note after bagging bronze in the parallel bars with 15.366, Sunday evening (Philippine time) at M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
This means the 22-year-old standout ended with two medals in the Worlds for the second straight year and maintained his medal streak of four since his Worlds debut in 2018 in Doha, Qatar.
Coming in fourth in qualification and performing third, Yulo banked on his execution to propel his score. And with just some minor hesistation in his moves, the 2021 silver medalist in the apparatus still pulled off the second highest E score of 9.066 to come up with the total score.
Yulo stayed in the lead until the back-to-back performances of Germany’s Lukas Dauser and China’s Zou Jingyuan. The Manila native also had to wait until hometown bet Joe Fraser’s stint before everything was settled.
Eventually, Zou ended with a whopping 16.166 to finally bag that elusive parallel bars World title. Dauser, on the other hand, took the silver with 15.500.
Yulo is expected to vie for qualification at the 2023 Worlds to be held in Antwerp, Belgium as that will serve as a qualification to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
