V-League: Tubu lifts Adamson to tough five-setter vs FEU

Jerry Yee notched his second consecutive win of the day after guiding Adamson University to a five-set victory against a pesky Far Eastern University side, 25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 23-25, 15-9 in the 2022 V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge, Wednesday at the Paco Arena.

Yee led College of St. Benilde to a four-set victory against the University of Sto. Tomas before coaching the Lady Falcons in their Pool A matchup against the Lady Tamaraws.

Trisha Tubu fired 24 points on 19 attacks, three kill blocks, and two service aces while Kate Santiago added 18 points on 15 attacks, two blocks, and an ace on top of 13 excellent digs in the victory.

“Rattled. Shaky, ganun na lang. Shaky yung performance,” said Yee after the game. “I told them hindi tayo mananalo kung rattled tayo o kinakabahan tayo. Yung inaasahan nating plays hindi natin makukuha kung ganun ang laro natin.”

Adamson went on a balanced 8-1 run to start the fifth frame but FEU bounced back quickly and trimmed the deficit to just three, 7-10, after a 6-1 rally kick-started by Julian Monares’ two consecutive points.

Sheena Toring and Santiago scored two quick points off a cross-court hit and a block, respectively, before the latter failed to get the ball across, 12-8.

Toring once again came through for the Lady Falcons, this time with a drop before Lady Tamaraws setter Tin Ubaldo was called for a net violation which put Adamson at match point, 14-8. Monares saved a point for FEU before Santiago closed the game with a kill.

The Lady Falcons had the chance to seal the game during the fourth frame following a huge 10-3 start but were not able to sustain their fine start as Chenie Tagaod, Asis, and Miltzi Paningin stepped up for the Lady Tamaraws to force a decider.
