UAAP accepts Nash Racela’s apology

Adamson University head coach Nash Racela has officially received acceptance from the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) for his issued apology following controversial remarks made during a press conference last Sunday.

In the aftermath of Adamson’s match against Ateneo de Manila University, Racela weighed in on the Blue Eagles’ chances of reaching the Final Four, stating, “I know they like Ateneo to make it to the Final Four. I don’t know how much percentage. Malaki, majority ‘di ba? The UAAP probably wants them. A lot of people probably want them to go in.”

Responding to these comments, the UAAP, through the Commissioner’s Office, dispatched a letter to Racela detailing the violated UAAP rules and a postgame report of the fourth quarter of the mentioned game.

The report indicated an acceptable margin of error, with missed calls evenly distributed between the two teams.UAAP-86-Mens-Basketball-Post-Game-Report-Ateneo-vs-Adamson-4th-quarter UAAP accepts Nash Racela's apology AdU Basketball News UAAP - philippine sports news

While the possibility of an immediate suspension loomed, Racela was granted an opportunity to avert such penalties by issuing a formal apology for his statements.

To rectify the situation and evade potential sanctions, Racela promptly issued a formal apology, expressing regret for mentioning the UAAP in the interview.

He clarified, “I don’t see any reason to apologize for the things I’ve said about how the game was officiated and for the emotions I’ve shared during that time. If it will do us any good, I apologize for the mere mention of the UAAP in the interview. I guarantee that there was no malice intended, and there was no intention to cast doubt on the integrity of the league.”

Taking Racela’s apology and clarification into account, the UAAP Basketball Commissioner’s Office decided against suspending him for Adamson University’s upcoming game against National University on Wednesday, November 15.

However, Racela has received a stern reprimand as a reminder of the paramount importance of upholding the league’s integrity and sportsmanship.
