Tots Carlos shrugs off PVL local points record, says those are ‘team points’

Tots Carlos just turned the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) into her playground as she unleashed a staggering 38-point performance on Tuesday evening, setting a new league record for most points by a local in a single game.

Despite the achievement, the three-time Conference MVP deflected the credit to the other Cool Smashers.

What was more important for Carlos was the result, which witnessed Creamline silence Cignal with a 26-28, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 16-14 reverse sweep in a jam-packed Philsports Arena in Pasig.

‘Yung 38 points, ‘di naman ‘yun personal points eh, team points ‘yun,” said the 25-year-old wing spiker after their two-hour, 57-minute chess match with the HD Spikers.

So kahit ilang points pa ‘yung makuha namin individually, very happy kami kasi it’s really for the team — lagi namang nauuna ‘yung team.

Siyempre grateful ako na merong mga ganitong opportunity. Pero ‘yun nga, paulit-ulit kami na kahit sino pang maka-38 points, walang problema basta nanalo ‘yung team. Wala kami talagang problema kasi number one priority talaga namin yung team,” she furthered.

Her outstanding performance surpassed the PVL pro era record of 33 points set by Sisi Rondina set on December 16, 2023 in Choco Mucho’s loss against, coincidentally, Creamline at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

It also eclipsed the PVL amateur era record 37 points of Alyssa Valdez set on July 5, 2017 in Creamline’s four-set win against Balipure.

Out of the 38, Carlos’ last four points were most important as it ultimately decided the match.

Creamline faced a huge three-point deficit with Cignal at match point 14-11. Then came Carlos.

The four-time PVL champion scored four in a row to push the Cool Smashers ahead, 15-14, before Pangs Panaga finished it with a block on Ces Molina to secure the win — and the record night for Carlos.

‘Yun nga, ‘yung ayaw naming matalo kasi naranasan na namin ‘yung ganoong scenario before. At least binigay mo ‘yung best mo,” she said.

Gusto ko lang talaga na manalo ‘yung team, and masaya ako na nakapag-execute kami nung mga bandang huli na.
