Tolentino says he’ll leave spat with Jose on the court

What happens on the court, stays on the court.

Arvin Tolentino chooses not to dwell any longer on the commotion between him and Raymar Jose during the final moments of the 2021-22 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals curtain-raiser, Wednesday night at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

“Dun na lang sa court ‘yun,” said the young forward.

The game was all but settled with the Bolts on the way to the huge win, but the attention suddenly turned to the former FEU Tamaraws. The two got heated with about seven seconds left to play and had to be separated.

Replays showed that Jose did not like Tolentino’s foul against him while he was protecting the ball, leading to the verbal trade. The jawing didn’t stop and the latter was seen pointing outside as if he wanted to bring it outside.

Both men got whistled for technical fouls. Jose, later on, made both of his free throws due to the foul against him, settling the final count of their 104-91 win that gave them a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

But it didn’t stop there. Right after the final buzzer sounded, Jose went on to chase Tolentino while both teams headed into the dugout. The situation was controlled as he was contained by the referees and his teammates.

Then again, Tolentino downplayed the situation.

“Konting kilitian lang but nothing serious,” he said.

However, it could be far from over. Jose, during a quick chat with Tiebreaker Times, was still seething over what had occurred, particularly with Tolentino’s challenge of bringing it outside the Big Dome.

The two actually left the venue almost at the same time and Jose even acknowledged Tolentino during the latter’s interview. And according to a witness, they continued to talk trash while on the way to the parking area.

It remains unknown if this will spill in Game 2 on Friday.
