Twelve of the best Esports teams in the world have already gathered in Singapore for the first ONE Esports DOTA 2 Singapore World Pro Invitational, which started on 17 December and will conclude on 22 December.
This is a huge step for ONE Championship’s transition to Esports, which started with the TEKKEN Tokyo Invitational and ONE Street Fighter Tokyo Challenge last October for the ONE: CENTURY week-long festivities.
The teams will be competing for a US$500,000 prize pool and it will be the first major to be played on the new Outlander’s patch.
The Philippines is bannered by TNC Predator, who recently became the first Southeast Asian team to win an ESL event at One Hamburg in October.
It was not a good start for the Philippines as they drew with J. Storm, then lost to Alliance. But they did end the night on a high note with a 2-0 win over Team Aster.
With a win, a loss, and a draw, TNC ended the first day in third place in Group A with three points. Alliance and Team Secret lead the group with five apiece. Virtus Pro also finished with three points, while J. Storm and Team Aster ended up with one point apiece.
TI5 Champions Evil Geniuses and Gambit lead Group B with four points apiece, while Na’Vi and Vici Gaming are in the middle of the pack with two points apiece. Team Liquid and PSG.LGD remain scoreless.
After a group round-robin, the top eight teams will be advancing to the main event, which will start on a closed show on 19 December before moving to the Singapore Indoor Stadium from 20 to 22 December for the knockout stages.
The inaugural champions will receive US$200,000, the runner-up will get US$100,000, and the third placer will take home US$60,000.
After this Esports event, ONE Championship returns to martial arts action on 10 January for ONE: A NEW TOMORROW at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
