Head coach Regine Diego feels grateful that Ivy Lacsina made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of F2 Logistics’ success in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference.
The 6-foot-1 Lacsina, now excelling in the all-around role, has been playing the opposite position for the Cargo Movers since their first game in the fresh and new edition of the PVL.
After two games, one loss, and one win, Lacsina admitted that she did not initially desire the opposite position.
However, she later embraced it as a challenge.
“Aaminin ko po sa inyo na hindi ko po gusto ang opposite position, pero syempre sino po ba ako para pumili ng posisyon, kaya kung ano ang ibinigay sa akin, kailangan kong yakapin ito dahil iyon ang kinakailangan ng team,” said the product of National University.
Despite it not aligning with her personal preference, Lacsina has excelled in the opposite position. And this was clear in her 26 points in F2 Logistics’ opener, although it resulted in a loss to Akari.
This Tuesday, however, she felt determined to lead the Cargo Movers to their first win at the expense of NXLED.
F2 Logistics prevailed, 25-20, 25-14, 25-16, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The 23-year-old Lacsina provided 19 points, with an efficient 15-of-28 clip from spikes, complemented by four blocks. She also made eight excellent digs, showcasing her adaptability to the new role.
“Sobrang proud ako and happy ako kasi tumatanggap siya ng challenge,” said Diego on her opposite spiker.
“Madali siya kausap kasi at first alam naming lahat even si Tyang Aby na ayaw ni Ivy ng opposite but syempre, team ito eh. This is not [an] individual sport, so kailangan talaga lahat ng tao mag-aadjust,” the F2 Logistics coach continued.
More importantly, Lacsina has expanded her knowledge and skills as a volleyball player, demonstrating her versatility as an athlete.
She has previously excelled in the middle blocker and open hitter positions.
“”Ivy accepted the challenge and also siya yung nagbigay ng mas malaking value ngayon sa sarili niya. Ngayon kahit saan mo ilagay si Ivy, kaya niya and I don’t think there’s a lot of players who can do that,” said the proud Diego.
“Whatever Ivy is doing now, it’s just making Philippine volleyball mas mataas na level di ba? If we have a lot of – wala tayong ganitong players na lahat pwedeng laruin so we can have better volleyball.”
