Norman Miguel returns to helm NU, Regine Diego shifts to deputy role

After two years, Norman Miguel is returning to National University.

NU announced on Monday that Miguel will once again take over as head coach of its women’s volleyball program, with Regine Diego transitioning to the role of lead deputy coach.

Miguel returns to a program he previously guided back to the summit of the UAAP, taking over after Diego steered the Lady Bulldogs to a runner-up finish in UAAP Season 88.

Under Diego, NU compiled a 10-4 elimination-round record before eliminating the University of Santo Tomas in the knockout semifinals.

The Lady Bulldogs then advanced to the championship series, where they fell to the De La Salle Lady Spikers in two games.

The appointment marks Miguel’s second return to the Sampaloc-based program.

His first stint with NU came in UAAP Season 81 when he was tapped to replace Babes Castillo.

Miguel inherited a rebuilding squad and finished with a 4-10 record before eventually giving way to Karl Dimaculangan.

Dimaculangan later transformed the Lady Bulldogs into a championship contender, culminating in NU’s breakthrough UAAP women’s volleyball title in Season 84.

Miguel returned to the helm in UAAP Season 86 and immediately restored NU to the top, leading the Lady Bulldogs to the championship after defeating the University of Santo Tomas in the Finals.

He was replaced by Sherwin Meneses ahead of Season 87.

Now back for another stint with the program, Miguel takes over a Lady Bulldogs squad that remains among the UAAP’s elite, aiming to guide NU back to the championship after its runner-up finish in Season 88 under Diego.
