National University will see another coaching change for its women’s volleyball program.
NU did not renew Norman Miguel last November 15 even after a 2-0 start in the UAAP Season 82 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
Taking over is University of the East head coach Karl Dimaculangan.
According to Miguel, his decision to not return to the Lady Bulldogs was personal, citing family reasons.
“I’m devoting my full time with our family at home,” said Miguel.
“This pandemic made me realize so many things, including family.”
Miguel took over from Babes Castillo back in UAAP Season 81.
In his first season in NU, the Lady Bulldogs finished 4-10.
A year later, the Lady Bulldogs were off to a quick 2-0 start before the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic stopped play.
Dimaculangan, a product of University of Santo Tomas, was promoted to head coach of University of the East during the tail-end of Season 80.
In his first year as head coach, UE finished with a 3-11 slate in Season 81. In Season 82, the Lady Warriors were 0-2.
Lady Warriors seniors Mean Mendrez and Seth Rodriguez have foregone their senior years, opting to turn pro with Petro Gazz.
Dimaculangan will be NU’s sixth head coach in eight years after Francis Vicente, Dong Dela Cruz, Roger Gorayeb, Babes Castillo, and Miguel, in that order.
