SIBOL MLBB Women saw the gold medal slip away in dramatic fashion, falling 4–3 to Malaysia in the gold medal match of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.
In a painful echo of their 2023 heartbreak, the Filipinas surged to match point, only to watch their rivals capture the next two games and snatch the gold, leaving SIBOL to settle for silver once again.
After splitting the first four matches, SIBOL seemed poised for a decisive Game 5 victory, building a 6,400 net worth lead by the 10th minute, powered by a 13–5 kill score.
However, Malaysia showed remarkable resilience, forcing SIBOL to rely on Kaye “Keishi” Alpuerto’s (Nolan) 18th-minute lord steal and Gwyneth “not ayanami” Diagon’s (Esmeralda) relentless backline initiations to secure match point with a 22-minute win.
With their backs against the wall, Malaysia leaned on Qurratul Ain Nurfarisha Bt Mohd Nizam’s Arlott, who finished with a 6-1-13 KDA, to push the series to an all-or-nothing Game 7.
In the decider, Malaysia maintained their momentum and ultimately clinched the gold medal, leaving SIBOL with silver.
