SJ Belangel will not be going anywhere.
The 24-year-old guard out of Ateneo has signed a two-year extension with Daegu KOGAS.
The Pegasus made the announcement on Friday.
It had been a long road for the 5-foot-10 guard, who was the first-ever Filipino to sign with a KBL club.
“Thank you, Lord. The past season was full of learnings and realizations, both on and off the court. I can truly say that I have grown so much, not only in mastering my craft as an athlete but also in becoming a better and more disciplined individual,” his post read.
“Malayo pa pero malayo na.”
In his first year as a pro, Belangel only played 18.8 minutes a game, averaging 7.02 points, 2.04 assists, and 1.92 rebounds in 52 games played.
However, after Lee Daesung signed with B.League team Mikawa, Belangel was given the keys to the Pegasus.
He delivered with averages of 12.63 points, 3.75 assists, and 2.21 rebounds per game, leading Daegu KOGAS to the seventh seed with a 21-33 record.
Now, Belangel will look to lead the Pegasus to the Promised Land.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Daegu Kogas Pegasus for their trust and for giving me the opportunity to play for the team for another two seasons. I also want to extend my thanks to my Head Coach, the coaching staff, my teammates, and the Kogas Fans for believing in me and supporting me consistently. Special thanks to Byun Young Jae, Sir Jang Kyeongrok, and Sir Marvin Espiritu for their guidance and support in every career decision I make,” he expressed.
“KOGAS Fighting! I am eagerly looking forward to the next season!”
