SBP unveils new logos as all national basketball teams to carry Gilas name

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas unveiled new logos for both the federation and Gilas Pilipinas, as they now embark on a new chapter for the sport in the country.

The unveiling took place on Wednesday evening at SMART Araneta Coliseum.

“We’re doing a refresh,” said SBP president Al Panlilio, who appeared alongside Philippine Basketball Association commissioner Willie Marcial during the announcement.

“The rationale is to signify the strength and the disciplined direction that we’re trying to achieve in the federation,” he added.

“We’ve structured the SBP to avoid less confusion.”

The remaking of Gilas logo also means that all basketball national teams will carry the Gilas brand, from the youth team to the women’s team, all the way down to the 3×3 squad.

The women’s, from Perlas Pilipinas, will now be called Gilas Pilipinas Women’s; the youth team will now be known as Gilas Pilipinas Youth from Batang Gilas; while the 3×3 will be Gilas Pilipinas 3×3.

“In the Gilas logo we’ve done a study with the help of Cignal, and what came up is the Gilas name is the most powerful one,” explained Panlilio.

“The SBP logo is a slight refresh. Gilas is in terms of a big change.”
