San Miguel’s in different situation now compared to past two conferences, says Marcio Lassiter

Marcio Lassiter did not hide his disappointment on Sunday night. No one can’t blame him though, for he and the San Miguel Beermen had absorbed a stunning defeat at the hands of Larry Fonacier and the NLEX Road Warriors.

“Anytime you lose, it’s never good,” said the sharpshooter after their 100-103 defeat at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum, where he scored 19 on 20 shots.

“It sucks losing, but credit to NLEX. They made us work tonight.”

The California-born guard-forward was more upset because of the way the Beermen had lost their games in the 2017 Governor’s Cup. In their losses versus the Star Hotshots and NLEX, the outcome was decided simply by its breaks.

“Both of our games that we lost are one-possession games where we’re in a position to win, but breaks of the game, we weren’t able to capitalize on it,” Lassiter rued. “We just got to get better at the things that we make mistakes on and learn from them.”

According to Lassiter, their inconsistent roster has added more woes for the Beermen, especially in this season-ending conference, noting the absence in some games of June Mar Fajardo due to his duties with Gilas Pilipinas.

“The past two conferences, we had June Mar. This time around, we don’t,” he said. “So it’s an adjustment. We got enough talent to beat teams and every one from the bench can compete with anybody.

“It’s just different for us right now.

“We’re not used to playing this type of lineup all the time, but we know we can compete at a high level so we just got to continue playing San Miguel ball and make sure that whoever’s out there, we’ll come out and play hard,” he furthered.

Still, the six-year veteran is optimistic that the Beermen will have enough time to resolve what is needed of them.

“Once we get fully healthy, we’ll be a different team and right now, we’re still finding our way,” said the six-year pro.

“We just need to focus on certain areas that we want and don’t fall on the same stuff in the next one.”
