Just like in their win versus the Magnolia Hotshots last July 5, Roi Sumang was once again a big factor behind the Blackwater Elite’s conquest of the Alaska Aces, Sunday evening.
In their 112-104 win, the UE product had 18 points — including the last three points that capped of their finishing 6-0 kick — along with five assists, three rebounds, and a steal in over 29 minutes.
But as impressive as he had been, Sumang said that it was because of their solid play as a whole.
A total of six players finished in double-figures in the win, and it was mainly because of the 26 assists they dished out. And those dimes, ultimately, led to them shooting 53-percent from the field.
“Yung team lang namin talaga, naglalaro kami bawat isa. Yung game plan talaga namin, mas umikot yung bola. Maganda yung tinakbo ng game plan namin kaya kami nanalo,” he said.
Sumang and the rest of Blackwater were happy with the result, as it was not just a win that gave them ample momentum heading into the quarterfinals expected to start next week.
The triumph enabled the Elite to finish with a 7-4 record and clinch the third seed for the next round, which they have never done since entering the league as an expansion team back in 2014.
For Sumang, he felt like he and Blackwater have finally exorcised the ghosts of the pasts.
“Masarap sa feeling kasi, number three. ‘Di katulad before, lagi kaming umaasa sa kung sino yung mananalo. Ngayon, kami yung may hawak kung anong pwedeng maging spot namin.
“Ayun na nga, nakuha namin yung number three spot,” closed Sumang, who’s been with the Elite since 2016.
