Ray Parks, Jr. to rest sprained ankle against Chinese Taipei-Red

Gilas Pilipinas have decided to rest Ray Parks, Jr. for their match today against Chinese Taipei-Red. This comes in the wake of the second-generation star’s mild ankle sprain on Sunday night versus Chinese Taipei-Blue.

The 24-year-old sprained his right ankle with 8:21 to go in the fourth quarter, after a collision with Taipei’s big man Tseng Wen-ting on a rebound play.

The 6-foot-4 combo guard had to be carried out by his teammates and never returned to action. The Philippines reigned victorious, 88-72, however, to earn their first win in the tourney.

“I’ll rest and I have to get ready for tomorrow,” said Parks, Jr., as he is set to return to action tomorrow, Tuesday, July 18, against Japan.

“Hopefully I get eighty to ninety percent tomorrow.”

The product of the National University basketball program is averaging 6.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in Gilas’ first two games. However, he was limited to just 18 minutes against Chinese Taipei-Blue

Parks, Jr., along with Mac Belo and Mike Tolomia, will sit out against Taipei-B. Activated to the line-up are Almond Vosotros, Von Pessumal, and Ed Daquioag.
