Many are wondering about Bobby Ray Parks, Jr.’s status with TNT, since his contract expired at the end of the last PBA season.
The 26-year-old signed a two-conference deal with Blackwater last year, which the KaTropa inherited when they acquired the Elite’s 2018 second overall pick via trade last November.
Asked regarding the issue, Parks, Jr. told Tiebreaker Times that he and TNT are still going through negotiations.
“Yes, we are still in negotiations,” wrote the second-generation star in a text message on Thursday afternoon.
“I heard it’s still under negotiation regarding his contract,” added KaTropa head coach Bong Ravena.
Parks Jr. wasn’t around in TNT’s practice on Thursday at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center. Still, Ravena said that he had reported to practice several times since they came back last January 20.
“Pinapa-isip muna namin ‘yung bata na maka-decide kung ano. Basta dito, open naman kami sa kanya.”
But of course, Ravena is hoping that the negotiations will turn out fine so that Parks Jr. and the KaTropa can put all their attention for the new season that raises its curtains on March 1.
“Hopefully matapos na ‘yan para maka-focus na siya sa team,” said the seasoned bench tactician.
But with talks still ongoing, Parks Jr. said that his focus, for now, remains on staying in shape and staying ready.
“For now, I’m just focused on working out and getting in the best shape possible,” said the two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player with the NU Bulldogs.
“So that when the time comes, I’ll be ready.”
