Jeff Chan’s eight-year stay with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters may have just ended, as the franchise of Asian Coatings Philippines, Incorporated is set to trade the native of Bacolod to the Phoenix Fuel Masters, according to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation.
In exchange, the Elasto Painters will receive nine-year pro Mark Borboran and the second round pick of the Fuel Masters in the 2020 PBA Draft. [UPDATED]
Chan, 33, was one of the cornerstones of the Rain or Shine franchise, and was a pivotal piece during the team’s two championship runs during the 2012 Governors’ Cup and 2016 Commissioner’s Cup, winning the Finals MVP honor during their first championship run.
During his first eight years in the league, seven of which were under Yeng Guiao in Rain or Shine, he averaged norms of 10.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. In three games this conference, the 6-foot-2 sniper is posting norms of 9.0 points per contest.
Borboran, on the other hand, is making his sixth stop in the PBA. The 6-foot-4 stretch big man has struggled to find playing time under coach Ariel Vanguardia during the import-laden conferences after a stellar Philippine Cup.
The initial proposal of the trade involved Carlo Lastimosa of NLEX and Cyrus Baguio of Phoenix, but the Road Warriors management was not willing to part ways with Lastimosa after a string of good outings.
