With the National Capital Region back under alert level three, professional leagues can only resume under a full bubble modality.
The Games and Amusements Board has sent an announcement to all professional leagues that the Joint Administrative Order No. 2020-0001: Guidelines on the Conduct of Health – Enhancing Physical Activities and Sports during the COVID-19 pandemic will strictly be adhered to in order for professional leagues to resume.
“All contact sports (such as boxing, MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing, basketball, volleyball, football) competition and training shall be suspended except those conducted under a bubble-type set —up as provided for under relevant guidelines adopted by the IATF and Games and Amusements Board (GAB), and approved by the Local Government Unit (LGU) where such events shall be held,” read the memorandum.
Fans can still be allowed to watch the games, only if the host LGU allows it.
The memorandum also stressed that “Non-contact exercise and sports shall be allowed at a maximum of 30, indoor venue capacity for fully vaccinated individuals only and 50% outdoor venue capacity. Provided that all on-site workers/employees of these establishments and organizers of activities are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and MPHS shall be strictly maintained. Provided further, that there is no objection from the LGU where these activities may take place.”
The Philippine Basketball Association has suspended play for the week.
Other leagues like the Premier Volleyball League and the Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League are in preparation for the 2022 season.
