The Philippine Women’s National Futsal Team suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Guam, Saturday evening, at the historic Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
“I know these players. They can play much better than what they showed this evening,” said Philippine team coach Vic Hermans.
“Maybe it was the first time (so) they were a little nervous. That’s something that you must take out for yourself, and you must enjoy when you have the people watching you and screaming to you.”
Guam’s Koharu Minato scored the game’s only goal off a deadly counterattack with 4:13 remaining in the game to give the visitors the victory.
The Filipinas tried to bounce back with multiple attempts at the Guam goal but it just was not meant to be.
“I’m very disappointed of course,” added Hermans. “I would have liked to win. But for the girls, I’m happy that we started with this. And we will see tomorrow what we could do better than today.”
Both sides will square off again tomorrow at 4:30 PM in the same venue.
