Gilas Men wait as Kevin Quiambao to work out for 5 NBA teams

Kevin Quiambao’s return to Gilas Pilipinas remains uncertain as he continues his pursuit of an NBA opportunity, currently working out for five teams in hopes of earning a spot in the Summer League.

Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone shared the update on Thursday evening during the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and adidas’ unveiling of the national team’s new jersey at the Monarch Manila in Makati.

Quiambao is currently in Sacramento, training and auditioning for NBA teams.

“I’ve been in communication with KQ. He’s got a workout with five NBA teams on the 11th. So on the 11th, he’s gonna work out in front of five NBA front offices,” said Cone.

Cone noted that Quiambao’s availability for Gilas hinges on how those workouts go, as the former UAAP MVP remains committed to chasing his NBA dream.

He is tentatively expected to return to the Philippines on July 16, but that timeline could shift depending on the results of his tryouts.

If no opportunities materialize, Quiambao may return earlier. However, should he impress and earn a Summer League spot, he could stay longer in the U.S. The NBA Summer League runs from July 10 to 20.

“That will kinda dictate his schedule after that. If he’s able to draw some interest, he might end up in the Summer League for a little longer. If not, he’ll come back earlier,” Cone added.

The 24-year-old forward had reportedly drawn interest from the Sacramento Kings upon his arrival in the U.S., but his name was not included in the team’s Summer League roster released earlier this week.
