The Philippines is currently on pace to crack the top 24 of the FIBA 3X3 World Rankings.
Just a day before the Grand Finals of the 2019 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 Patriot’s Cup presented by Coca-Cola, the Philippines rose to number 28 in the world, sixth in Asia, with 6,257,888 points.
“This is great news because before we started our league, we were down at number 60 in the world rankings,” said Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 league owner Ronald Mascariñas.
“Four more steps up and we will have our final dance in the OQT (Olympic Qualifying Tournament) come March next year, for the chance to play in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.“
After the President’s Cup ended last April, the country cracked the top 30.
During the off-season, the league continued to send teams to numerous level-10 World Tour Masters and level-nine Challenger tournaments.
The majority of the points of the country came during the President’s Cup – a level seven tournament that has four legs and culminates with the Quest-level (level eight) Grand Finals on Saturday, July 27, at the SM Megamall Events Center.
Besides having a prize pool of PHP 2M, the President’s Cup is also a qualifier for the 2019 Jeddah Masters and the Xiong’An Challenger.
“Our job is not yet done until we make it to the top 24,” added the amiable executive. “I hope you will continue to support this dream for the honor of our country.”
The deadline to make it to the top 24 is set on November 1, 2019.
