Choco Mucho rolls past Akari, extends winning streak to 4 in PVL


Choco Mucho found its rhythm in the fourth set to close out Akari, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 25-15, securing its fourth straight victory in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference on Saturday night at the Philsports Arena.

With the win, the Flying Titans joined a three-way tie for third to fifth place alongside Cignal and PLDT, all sporting identical 6-3 records.

After edging out Akari in a tight third set, Choco Mucho shifted into high gear in the fourth, quickly building an 11-4 lead behind the efforts of Cherry Nunag, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, and Isa Molde.

The Flying Titans maintained their momentum, extending their advantage to 21-9 before ultimately putting the game away.

“Dun sa mga adjustments namin, ‘yung ginagawa namin like ‘yung unforced errors namin siguro na-limitahan namin,” said Choco Mucho head coach Dante Alinsunurin.

“Kung ano ‘yung tinatrabaho namin every day, ‘yung mga out of system… Sabi ko nga, the more na ma-control ‘yung mga ganung bagay kasi doon kami makakakuha ng puntos. Lumabas siya kasi tinrabaho namin every time,” he added.

Sisi Rondina led the charge for Choco Mucho with 18 points — 17 off attacks — while also contributing nine excellent digs. Manabat added 12 points, and Molde chipped in eight.

Setter Deanna Wong orchestrated the offense with 11 excellent sets while also scoring four points, and libero Thang Ponce anchored the defense with nine excellent digs and nine excellent receptions.

Choco Mucho looks to extend its winning streak to five when it faces Nxled on Thursday at 4:00 PM at the same venue.

Meanwhile, Akari slipped to a share of sixth place, tying Chery Tiggo with a 5-5 record.

Ivy Lacsina paced the Chargers with 18 points, delivering 13 attacks, three blocks, and two aces. Faith Nisperos and Fifi Sharma chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Setter Kamille Cal also had an impressive outing with 11 excellent sets and eight points, while Justine Jazareno tallied 16 excellent digs.

Akari will look to bounce back when it faces Cignal on February 18 at Philsports Arena.
