Choco Mucho’s secret to success? Deanna Wong says it’s all about teamwork

Choco Mucho is on a roll, and Deanna Wong knows exactly why.

Riding a four-game winning streak in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, the Flying Titans have found their groove — thanks to the one thing that has always set them apart:

Teamwork.

After a shaky 2-3 start to the tournament, Choco Mucho found its rhythm, securing crucial wins against Farm Fresh, ZUS Coffee, PLDT, and Akari.

These victories propelled them up the standings, creating a three-way tie for third place with Cignal and the High Speed Hitters.

“Yun nga, teamwork,” Wong said after their hard-fought win over the Chargers on Saturday night. “Hindi naman kasi isang tao lang makakapanalo ng game, so ‘yun. ‘Pag off ang receive, cover ng palo, parang connected lang talaga siya sa gagawin namin.

“Happy kasi onti-onti, we’re reaching the goal na gusto naming (marating). So masaya kami na ganito,” she added.

The Flying Titans faced a tough challenge from Akari but took control in the fourth set to seal a 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 25-15 victory.

Choco Mucho started strong in the opening set but lost momentum in the second, allowing Akari to even the match.

However, the Flying Titans leaned on their chemistry and composure in the third, eking out a close win to take a 2-1 advantage.

With their confidence restored, they dominated the fourth set to close out the match in emphatic fashion.

“Yun nga, sabi ni coach, maganda nung una, pero nung pagdating ng second set, I think nag-lax kami, pero team effort talaga kasi,” Wong said.

The former Ateneo standout stressed that teamwork has always been the foundation of Choco Mucho’s success.

Whether dealing with injuries, national team duties, or health concerns, the Flying Titans have consistently found ways to step up for one another.

“May time na ito [si Sisi] nawala, ako nawala, si Isa nawala… We were trying to be patient with each other, and we were trying to help each other,” Wong shared.

“Yun naman yung sa amin eh, pag isa yung nawala, kami yung tutulong sa kanya para mabalik. Team effort, and I’m glad na nakuha namin yung panalo.”
