After weeks of heartbreak and frustration, Nxled finally broke through.
Chameleons head coach Ettore Guidetti had seen the signs — small improvements, growing confidence — but on Saturday night, those glimpses turned into a long-awaited victory.
The Chameleons outlasted the Galeries Tower Highrisers in four sets, 25-20, 19-25, 25-14, 25-23.
That snapped a brutal 15-game losing streak and let the team claim its first win of the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.
“It’s been about four matches since I started seeing really good improvements in the numbers. In the beginning, honestly, there was a big gap between us and some of the other teams,” said Guidetti after the win.
The veteran tactician — whose coaching career spans Poland, Sweden, Romania, and his native Italy — sees something special in the Chameleons. He believes in their potential and remains eager to guide them toward elevating their game to the next level.
Guidetti also praised the team’s character, commending their resilience and determination despite the challenges they have faced early in the conference.
“Well, the fact that I’m still here after a bunch of losses says a lot — I feel very good about this team. They’re really, really nice to coach. This is a very coachable group. I’m having fun. Every single day with them is a good day,” he said.
“I want to help them in any way I can because I have 16 amazing human beings, and part of my job is to do everything I can to help them develop.”
Guidetti, who secured his first PVL victory, sees this as just the beginning for the Chameleons. He expects even more from the squad as they continue their campaign.
“Right now, we’ve shortened the gap, and I was really, really waiting for the day we could finally click and win a tough, high-level set. Thank God that day has come. That day is today. Now, we’re looking forward to the next game and proving to everyone that this is just the beginning.”
