Petro Gazz will enter the 2024 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference quarterfinals armed with a four-game winning streak after dominating Chery Tiggo, 25-20, 25-16, 25-12 on Thursday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The Angels were able to forge a tie with the Crossovers and Capital1 with identical 5-3 standings, but managed to secure the sixth spot due to its 14-point tally.
Meanwhile, Chery Tiggo secured the number five spot with 15 points, while the Solar Spikers slipped to the seventh seed with 13.
“Today’s game, we must win because it was a[n important] game. Yeah, a lot of fun, so [we] couldn’t lose. But today, everyone did a good, best performance. I hope to continue this pace in the next game,” said Petro Gazz head coach Koji Tsuzurabara.
Salas took charge in the win with 21 points and nine excellent receptions.
Brooke Van Sickle came up with 12 points on nine attacks and three service aces to round out the double-digit scorers for the Angels. She also had seven excellent digs in the one-hour, 21-minute contest.
It was a dominant victory for Petro Gazz, who had 44 attacks in the match, as they limited the Crossovers to just 24.
The Angels’ impenetrable net defense also held Khat Bell, averaging 27.4 points per game heading into the contest, to a conference-low eight points.
The American winger also had six excellent digs and three excellent receptions.
Mylene Paat also had eight markers, while Cess Robles had six points in two sets played for Chery Tiggo.
Petro Gazz will go up against Creamline in the knockout quarterfinals on Tuesday, 6:00 PM, at the same venue.
Meanwhile, the Crossovers will face off against PLDT also on Tuesday at 4:00 PM.
