The Philippine Basketball Association has put off Saturday’s Commissioner’s Cup games due to Typhoon Paeng.
A pair of games were supposed to be played at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, with Meralco and San Miguel Beer opening the double-header affair at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Magnolia-Rain or Shine tussle at 6:45 p.m.
The postponement came after signal no. 3 was raised over NCR and eight other areas, including Rizal.
“The PBA is calling off its games today, Saturday – October 29, 2022 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo as severe weather, road and traffic conditions may be unsafe and undesirable for our fans and players due to the effects of severe tropical storm Paeng,” the league said.
Foiled by the development was the Beermen’s bid of winning their third straight, as well as the aim of both the Elasto Painters and the second-running Hotshots to bounce back after losing to Phoenix and Ginebra, respectively.
This is now the second time this conference that the league postponed matches due to inclement weather.
The September 25 playdate, which was supposed to see Meralco battle NLEX and Ginebra take on Converge, was called off because of Typhoon Karding. Those games will now be held on November 30 at the Philsports Arena.
A new schedule of the recently postponed games has yet to be announced by the league.
Due to Paeng, Sunday’s games, to be held still at the Ynares Center, are also hanging in the balance.
It will feature Blackwater’s clash with the up-and-coming FiberXers at 4:30 p.m. and the streaking Fuel Masters’ bout with TNT at 5:45 p.m. It is the league’s last gameday before heading into a five-day holiday break.
“Further announcements will be made as appropriate regarding the games on Sunday,” the league said.
