ANTIPOLO — The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is set for a crucial meeting sometime next week to discuss the case of John Amores.
This comes after the NorthPort guard explained his side to the league about what transpired during the shooting incident he got involved in last month in Laguna.
“Binigay na ‘yung sagot,” Commissioner Willie Marcial told reporters Saturday.
“Pag-aaralan na ng legal … Siguro, magmi-meeting kami next week.”
Marcial and Atty. Melvin Mendoza, a member of the PBA’s legal counsel, met with Amores just last Tuesday at the league’s office in Libis, Quezon City.
Also present in the meeting were Batang Pier officials, particularly team governor Erick Arejola and team manager Waiyip Chiong.
The former JRU guard was asked to explain before the Commissioner’s Office, as players are obligated to do so, as per the uniform players’ contract (UPC).
“Kasi nasa UPC ‘yung mga dapat niya explain, mga violations nya sa UPC,” said Marcial.
“Binigyan natin ng letter para mag explain within five days.”
Marcial declined to expound on what was talked about, although he said that Amores was apologetic for what happened.
“Sorry at hindi ko masabi sa inyo, kasi nasa korte na usapan. Pero sinabi ko lang na ayusin niya. Nagso-sorry siya.”
Amores, 25, was caught on CCTV cameras firing at a certain Lee Cacalda following a heated altercation that began during a basketball game.
He and his brother eventually surrendered to authorities the following day. The Amoreses would then be released from detention after posting bail.
The PBA sophomore was charged with attempted homicide.
