Parks’ Nagoya hammers nine-man Tokyo Z to advance in Emperor’s Cup

Nagoya showed no mercy against an undermanned Tokyo Z team, picking up a 93-58 victory to advance to the next round of the 97th Emperor’s Cup, Saturday at Kishiwada City Gymnasium in Osaka, Japan.

Earthfriends did not have Juan Gomez de Liaño in the contest as he is still dealing with a quad injury.

Also not in Tokyo Z’s lineup were Tsubasa Kurihara, Mark Burton, and Takumi Masuko.

The Diamond Dolphins still made sure to not let their guards down, racing to a 31-17 opening quarter lead. They then extended it to 57-30 at the half.

Nagoya’s lead would go to as high as 37 points, 91-54, with 2:49 left.

Filipino superstar Ray Parks only played 18 minutes in the game, finishing with six points, four assists, three rebounds, and two steals.

The returning Scott Eatherton led the way for the Diamond Dolphins with 21 points on 9-of-9 shooting from the field. He also had six rebounds and two assists.

Yutaru Suda chimed in 17 points and five rebounds while Coty Clarke strung 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Nagoya will await the winner of the Shinshu Brave Warriors-Bambitious Nara game. The next round of the All-Japan tournament for the Diamond Dolphins tips off on Sunday at 12:00 NN.

Joshua Crawford was the high point man for Tokyo Z with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Eddy Norelia and Yuto Yamaguchi had 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Eathfriends returns to B.League action next weekend at the Tamura City General Gymnasium as they take on Fukushima.
