Olsim’s opponent pulls out of ONE: Empower bout

Jenelyn Olsim will not be part of ONE: Empower.

And it’s because of something that is beyond her control.

Her supposed opponent Grace Cleveland has pulled out of the ONE Atomweight World Grand Prix alternate bout that was supposed to take place during Empower on Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The 27-year-old Thai-American bared the development on her Instagram account.

“I’m no longer fighting on September 3.

“Got all my medicals done for the fight, but I have been experiencing really bad dizziness for the past month,” bared Cleveland, who is 5-0 in her career. “It got to the point where it affected me for four days and I literally just had to sit in a position not to spin. Was waiting for my brain MRI and it gave me some information I need to get myself checked out.

“So far one doctor says it may be BPPV (vertigo), which is treatable. Going to get a couple of opinions because I think when it comes to medical and health, it’s best to get more than one.”

Olsim had been looking forward to fighting on the historic card as she is the lone Team Lakay representative in it.

The 30th Southeast Asian Games gold medalist earned her spot in the GP after defeating Bi Nguyen during ONE: Battleground III that aired last Friday.

The native of Baguio had left for Singapore last Sunday.

It is still unknown whether ONE will book a new fight for Olsim as the majority of the atomweights the promotion has is already booked in the GP.

For her part, Cleveland extends her apology to Olsim.

“In the end, I’m reminded that health is important, and having a daughter now, I can’t be selfish and put myself in a dangerous position. I apologize to everyone and the promotion,” she expressed. “I honestly was tearing up and told myself why am I even fighting if this keeps happening to me. Got in my head and a bit in a funk with myself, but I have amazing support to remind me how strong I am and that I know I can overcome anything. Just have to be patient.

“I’m sorry to my opponent.”
