NBL: Kai Sotto grabs seven boards in 11 min as Adelaide notches first win

Kai Sotto doubled his minutes from his season debut but ended up scoreless during Adelaide’s 90-80 win against Illawarra in the 2022-23 NBL Season, Saturday at Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Sotto, who played 11 minutes in the first half, went 0-of-2 from the field but still grabbed seven rebounds and notched two blocks in the 36ers’ breakthrough win of the season.

It was the rest of the gritty Adelaide that stepped up against the upset hungry Hawks.

Down 59-60 early in the final frame, Craig Randall scored 14 in a 16-4 spurt to blow the game wide open.

Randall ended up with 28 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

Supporting him were Robert Franks and Antonius Cleveland, who both got 16 markers apiece as well. Franks also grabbed nine boards.

Daniel Johnson added 10 points and eight assists while Mitch Mccarron produced eight points and eight rebounds.

Illawara, who fell to 1-3, was led by Deng Deng’s 18 points while Tyler Harvey chipped in 16 markers.

The 36ers will next face Sydney on Friday.
