The Filipinas suffered their first setback in the ASEAN MSIG Serenity Cup 2025 campaign, falling 1-0 to the Australia Under-23 Women’s National Team on Sunday at Việt Trì Stadium.
Melbourne Victory’s Alana Jančevski scored the match’s only goal in the first half stoppage time (45+1).
The 22-year-old midfielder cut inside from the right flank and unleashed a low-driven curling shot that slipped past Philippines goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel.
In the second half, the Filipinas had their best chance to equalize.
Captain Hali Long’s header was on target but was brilliantly saved by Young Matildas goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln.
With this result, both the Philippines and Australia have three points each in Group B.
However, the Young Matildas hold second place due to their superior head-to-head record, dropping the Filipinas to third.
Earlier in the day, Myanmar solidified its position at the top of Group B by defeating Timor-Leste 3-0, increasing its points tally to six and eliminating Timor-Leste from contention.
The Filipinas and the Young Matildas will look to secure their spots in the knockout stage this Wednesday at 8:30 PM (Manila time).
The Philippines will face Myanmar at Lạch Tray Stadium in Hai Phong, while Australia U-23 will take on Timor-Leste at Việt Trì Stadium.
