As it did in Hangzhou three years ago, the Filipinas’ campaign in the 20th Asian Games ended on Friday with a 4-0 quarterfinal loss to Japan at Shizuoka Stadium in Fukuroi City.
Nadeshiko Japan wrapped up the contest in the first half.
Saori Takarada scored a tap-in just two minutes into the match to open the scoring before completing her brace in the 36th minute with a fine finish past goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel.
In between Takarada’s first-half goals, Mami Ueno converted teammate Yuzuho Shiokoshi’s corner kick with a right-footed finish in the 26th minute.
Chiina Kamiya completed Japan’s four-goal rout in the 45+2nd minute with a header after the Filipinas failed to clear their lines.
Seeking a third consecutive Asian Games gold medal and fourth title overall, Japan will face South Korea in a high-stakes semifinal on Tuesday at the same venue.
The Filipinas, meanwhile, ended their Asian Games campaign with a record of one win, one draw, and two losses.
The Philippines now shifts its focus to a South American training camp, which will feature a pair of friendlies against host nation Peru as part of its preparations for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
