Filipinas crush Timor-Leste 7-0 to open Serenity Cup title defense

The Philippine Women’s National Football Team kicked off its title defense in dominant fashion, securing one of its most lopsided victories in recent years to open the 2025 ASEAN MSIG Serenity Cup with a statement win.

Quinley Quezada and Inday Tolentin each scored a brace as the Filipinas overwhelmed Timor-Leste, 7-0, on Thursday at the Việt Trì Stadium in Phú Thọ province, Vietnam.

Quezada netted the second goal just seven minutes into the match with a close-range finish. She then extended the lead to 4-0 in the 32nd minute with another composed strike, giving the defending champions a commanding advantage at the break.

Tolentin added to the onslaught in the second half, delivering a spectacular strike from a tight angle in the 57th minute to make it 5-0.

She then calmly tapped in her second in the 64th minute, pushing the lead to six.

Rookie Aaliyah Schinaman had a dream debut, opening the scoring just two minutes after kickoff to set the tone for the Filipinas.

Team captain Hali Long followed up with a well-placed header in the 9th minute after Schinaman and Quezada’s early flurry, giving the Philippines a 3-0 cushion within the first ten minutes.

Adelaide Wyrzynski completed the rout in the 75th minute, sealing the Filipinas’ most decisive international win since their 16-0 demolition of Tonga in 2022.

Myanmar sits in second after a 2-1 triumph over Australia U-23 earlier in the day.

The Filipinas face a tougher challenge on Sunday when they take on the Matildas U-23 at 8:30 PM (Manila time).
