Over 600 participants expected as PTTF school-based tourney returns

The Philippine Table Tennis Federation Inc. is ready to stage the third edition of the Intercollegiate and Interscholastic Challenge from August 29 to 31 at the Home Court, Ayala Malls Manila Bay, with an even larger pool of participants expected this year.

Now considered one of the most anticipated events in the local table tennis calendar, the tournament brings together top collegiate and high school teams from various leagues across the country to compete in 14 events.

“Last year, around 600 participants. This time, we are looking at an even bigger number of participants,” said PTTF Secretary General Pong Ducanes.

This is the third season and this is the biggest intercollegiate, interscholastic event in the country in the post-pandemic era, where different universities, colleges, and schools from different leagues meet in one big event to test who is the best in the country.”

In last year’s edition, the University of Santo Tomas emerged as the most successful school, bagging seven titles, including a win by Eljay Tormis in the College Men’s Singles division.

The event is supported by Topcoms Marketing (official distributor of Mizuno Shoes), Lamtex, Akari, Huaching Foundation, Cara Celine Dormtel, Gold Cross Security Agency, Aero Technologies Solutions OPC, Osmium Group Marketing Inc., Gatorade, the Philippine Sports Commission, the Philippine Olympic Committee, and Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

The college division will feature eight events: Men’s Team – Division 1, Women’s Team – Division 1, Men’s Team – Division 2, Women’s Team – Division 2, Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, and Women’s Doubles.
