University of Santo Tomas reigned supreme in the 2025 Philippine Table Tennis Federation Inc. Intercollegiate and Interscholastic Challenge, bagging seven gold medals at the Home Court, Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque City.
Leading the charge was Eljey Dan Tormis, who captured the college men’s singles title after defeating teammate Joshua Manlapaz, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9.
In the high school division, Jebb Datahan secured the boys’ singles crown by overcoming top seed Emmanuel Paculba Jr., 4-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8.
UST also showcased its depth in doubles play, sweeping the high school division. Anton Bayona and Jhiven Clamucha outlasted Adamson’s Jnash Chavez and Miguel Reyes, 11-5, 15-17, 11-6, 14-12, in the boys’ finals.
On the girls’ side, Xyra Malaluan and J-An Sanchez prevailed over fellow Thomasians Shaira Puentespina and Padmae Vivas, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-4.
In the college women’s doubles, Samantha Bandojo and Althea Jade Gadez downed De La Salle’s Kyla Cielo Bernaldez and Angelou Joyce Laude, 11-5, 10-12, 11-8, 11-6.
UST also struck gold in the team events, edging Ateneo, 2-1, in the college men’s Division 1 final, and sweeping Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas, 2-0, in the high school boys’ championship.
In other notable results, La Salle’s Angelou Joyce Laude topped UST’s Althea Jade Gadez, 11-3, 6-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-6, to clinch the college women’s singles crown.
San Beda’s Mike Aguna and JD Nominador captured the college men’s doubles title after beating College of Saint Benilde’s Arvin Garcia and Kyle Quiñones, 4-11, 13-11, 11-4, 6-11, 11-8.
The National Academy of Sports also made its mark, with Myzette Torres defeating De La Salle-Zobel’s Kim Amandy, 11-4, 7-11, 11-6, 11-7, to take the high school girls’ singles title, before leading the team to a championship win over UST-A.
In the college women’s team event, De La Salle edged UST-A, 2-1, to secure the Division 1 crown, while De La Salle-Dasmariñas defeated San Beda University, 2-1, for the Division 2 title.
De La Salle-Dasmariñas also captured the college men’s Division 2 crown, blanking the University of the Philippines, 2-0, in this tournament which was supported by Topcoms Marketing (official distributor of Mizuno Shoes), Lamtex, Akari, Huaching Foundation, Cara Celine Dormtel, Gold Cross Security Agency, Gatorade, the Philippine Sports Commission, and Ayala Malls Manila Bay, with additional backing from Dino Jalandoni, Eric Ongkauko, Bombit Silva, Edison Dy, and Mark Andrew Flores.
