PGJC-Navy might have found its go-to-guy in Jao Umandal, but Greg Dolor is someone not to be taken for granted.
Dolor starred in the Sealions’ 19-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-21 conquest of VNS-One Alicia in the 2022 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, Saturday at the Paco Arena.
The PGJC-Navy team captain went for a game-high 17 points built on 14 attacks and three kill blocks.
“Pwede ko siyang itapat kay Jao,” said Sealions head coach Cecille Cruzada after the match.
Surprised wasn’t Cruzada as she knows Dolor can really deliver when his number is called.
And the enlisted Philippine Navy personnel’s performance wasn’t a fluke, but just a result of his extra hours in the gym as shared by the bench tactician.
“Si Greg kasi actually isa talaga siya sa pinagkakatiwalaan ko sa team,” she said on her team captain.
“Kasi si Greg, kahit hindi mo sabihan na mag ensayo, mageensayo siya. Kahit may ensayo kami, meron pa siya para sa sarili niya.”
Even though the numbers are always there, it is the intangibles that make Dolor a fixture in PGJC-Navy’s lineup.
But don’t be fooled, Dolor can do it all on the floor, be it spiking, blocking, or any other statistical category.
“Kaya kahit wala ako pero nandiyan si Greg, mataas ‘yung expectation ko sa kanya pagdating din sa laro kasi nakikita ko ‘yung pagiging leader niya sa loob,” added Cruzada, the only woman head coach in the men’s premier league.
“Maganda talaga ‘yung laro niya mapablock siya, spike, andiyan siya meron siya lagi.”
