It was a small win in the standings, but a meaningful one for a PGJC-Navy squad that spent last season incomplete and started this year’s campaign with six straight losses.
On the final day of the 2025 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference elimination round, the Sealions finally broke through, taking down VNS in four sets, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22, to close the tournament with a hard-earned victory.
Team captain Greg Dolor said it was a win they simply weren’t willing to leave behind.
“Yung effort talaga namin ngayon, must-win talaga eh. Gusto talaga naming manalo kasi ayaw din naming ma-sweep kami ng wala kaming panalo. So thankful ako kasi lahat naman nag-perform,” Dolor said.
But beyond the scoreboard, the victory carried extra significance for the PGJC-Navy skipper.
After an Open Conference marred by player absences due to military schooling and health issues, the Sealions finally ended the tournament at full strength.
Leading that sense of completeness was the return of Joeven Dela Vega, who rejoined the lineup after a lung ordeal sidelined him earlier in the season.
“Thankful pa rin kami kasi although galing kami sa pahinga, galing ‘yung iba sa’min sa schooling sa military career namin, then ‘yung iba nagkasakit,” Dolor said.
“Thankful ako kasi magkakasama kami ulit. Nabuo ulit namin ‘yung PGJC-Navy, then I hope sana magtuloy-tuloy pa rin na buo namin ‘yung team ulit.”
For Dolor, ending the campaign whole — and ending it with a win — was the small victory the team needed to take home.
“We will come back next Spikers’ Turf.”
