Refusing to let PGJC-Navy finish the conference without a single win, team captain Greg Dolor powered the Sealions past VNS in a gritty four-set battle, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22, to end their 2025 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference campaign on a high note, Sunday at the Paco Arena.
Dolor erupted for 24 points built on 21 attacks, two blocks, and an ace as PGJC-Navy finally broke through and wrapped up the tournament with a 1-6 record at the bottom of the seven-team field.
“‘Yung effort talaga namin ngayon, must-win talaga eh. Gusto talaga naming manalo kasi ayaw din naming ma-sweep kami ng wala kaming panalo. So thankful ako kasi lahat naman nag-perform,” said the Navy veteran.
Dolor was efficient all match long, converting 52.4-percent of his attempts while stepping up in the absence of Joeven Dela Vega, who sat out the non-bearing contest.
PGJC-Navy capitalized on the Griffins’ 29 errors, showing the composure and experience that had eluded them for most of the conference.
“Kinapos lang kasi ‘yung preparation namin is too short lang talaga. Kaya ‘yung adjustments medyo (hirap). Pero kung may second round siguro makaka-adapt,” said Sealions head coach George Pascua.
Marc Paulino backed Dolor up with 17 points alongside 14 excellent receptions and eight excellent digs, while Marvin Hairami tallied 19 excellent sets in PGJC-Navy’s lone win of the tournament organized by Sports Vision and backed by Alpha Insurance, Premiere EMS, Buffalo’s Wings N’ Things, and Arena Plus.
Peter Quiel chipped in nine points, while libero Jack Kalingking added 11 excellent receptions and four excellent digs.
The Sealions recovered from a tough opening-day loss before steadying their form in the latter stretch.
VNS also ended with a 1-6 slate but edged PGJC-Navy for seventh place via set ratio.
Noy Pedrosa led the Griffins with 15 points, while Kimmy Liray contributed 14 markers and 14 excellent receptions.
Games are aired live on One Sports and One Sports+, with video-on-demand access via the Pilipinas Live app. Matches are also streamed on spikersturf.ph.
