Jude Garcia has long been a fixture at the top of the Spikers’ Turf, winning three consecutive MVP awards, but none felt as sweet as his fourth.
For years, he endured a grueling wait that saw him claim the league’s highest individual honor three times, only to fall short in the finals against rival Cignal in the end.
But on Saturday night, Garcia finally paired his unprecedented fourth MVP award with the ultimate team triumph — leading the King Crunchers to their first-ever league title.
“Sabi nga ni sir Jonathan [Ng] sa’kin kanina, ito ‘yung pinakamasarap na MVP ko kasi sa lahat ng MVP ko, talo kami eh,” said Garcia after Criss Cross’ breathtaking five-set win over Japanese guest team Kindai University in the 2025 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference Finale.
Garcia delivered when it mattered most, refusing to let the moment slip. He fired a game-high 35 points, rallying the King Crunchers in a tense fifth set where they fended off a gutsy Japanese squad that had stormed back from a 0-2 set deficit to force a thrilling decider.
For the first time, the 27-year-old winger got to fully celebrate his MVP award.
Unlike his previous three honors, which were overshadowed by finals losses, this time he could revel in both personal achievement and team success, savoring a historic championship alongside his newest MVP trophy.
“Kaya ito, sobrang sarap kasi talagang nakuha namin ‘yung championship tapos hindi bumitaw ‘yung teammates ko sa’kin, hindi bumitaw ‘yung coaching staff, ‘yung management para i-lift up ako sa game,” he said.
Indeed, it was a well-deserved night of glory for Garcia, who had taken on the mantle as the face of the Spikers’ Turf, with Cignal star Bryan Bagunas and Criss Cross teammate Marck Espejo continuing to juggle national team duties and commitments with foreign clubs over the past two years.
Garcia has embraced that role wholeheartedly, vowing to stay focused on his work and lead by example, hoping to inspire the next generation of volleyball players.
“Sobrang laking responsibilidad ‘yon, ‘yung maging face ng Spikers’ Turf. Pero hindi ko ‘yun tine-take advantage ‘yun. Talaga focus ako sa ginagawa ko, gusto ko ako maging role model sa lahat ng bata na gustong maglaro ng volleyball.”
With that mindset, Garcia closed the season not just as a champion and four-time MVP, but as a living example of perseverance and dedication. He has turned past heartbreak into motivation, emerging as a standard-bearer for the next generation of Philippine volleyball stars.
