CANDON, Ilocos Sur — Alas Pilipinas claimed fifth place in the first leg of the 2026 SEA Men’s V Cup after sweeping Myanmar, 25-21, 28-26, 25-22, on Saturday at the Candon City Arena.
After suffering losses to Cambodia and Indonesia in the pool stage, the Philippines closed out its campaign on a high note by securing its lone victory of the leg.
The Nationals overcame a sluggish start in the opening set, rallying from a 17-11 deficit behind the second-string unit of Van Book, Lloyd Josafat, Louie Ramirez, Al-Bukharie Sali, and Greg Ancheta. The group sparked a decisive 14-4 run to steal the first frame, 25-21.
The comeback proved to be the turning point as Alas Pilipinas carried the momentum through the next two tightly contested sets to complete the straight-set victory and finish fifth in the regional tournament, which was hosted by Candon City Mayor Eric Singson with support from the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.
The second leg of the tournament will be held from July 22 to 26 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
