After a long hard thought, Miguel Yniguez has finally decided to move on from San Francisco State.
The 6-foot-5 Filipino-American winger announced his decision to move to University of the Philippines on Tuesday morning (Manila time).
“I am beyond blessed to announce that I am committing to the University of the Philippines.
“To everyone who has helped me continue my journey, maraming maraming salamat po!” his post read.
Yniguez actually suited up for UP in a Pinoyliga game last June against Emilio Aguinaldo College.
Back then, Yniguez was still undecided if he was going to move back home.
Yniguez then enrolled at San Francisco State this season, playing eight games.
Fast forward to now and his transfer has been made official during the MBT’s U.S. trip led by Monteverde and UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol.
This means that Yniguez will have to sit out UAAP Season 87 before being eligible to play for the Fighting Maroons.
“We’re looking forward to the contributions na mabibigay ni Miguel sa’tin. Matagal na nating nakitang he can be a big help for our team so it’s good na tuloy na tuloy na nga,” said Fighting Maroons head coach Goldwin Monteverde.
Having redshirted the 2022-23 season, he still has four years of eligibility left.
UP has already had a meeting with Jayden Harper over the weekend and will also meet Jacob Bayla.
